While visiting the coast of Oregon over winter break, we stopped in some shops in Eugene Oregon.  While perusing cookbooks, dishtowels, and tote bags, there was a corner of barware.  Amongst ice molds and jiggers there were a few bottles of bitters, and mixes.

I scanned the little bottles and what struck my eye were three bottles of shrubs by “Nostrum”.  After contemplating the flavors, I settled on one with “blackberry” “cacao nib” and “sage” on the front label.

On the side of the bottle was a recipe for a Kentucky Bramble.

2 oz bourbon

3/4 oz lemon juice

1/2 oz of the Nostrum shrub

1/4 oz of simple syrup

2 dashes of angostura bitters

shake with ice and strain

I actually had these ingredients with me to make a few other drinks while on vacation and so it was very easy to make.

My measurements were a bit less than accurate, and I completed our drinks with two large cubes of ice, and topped with club soda.
